Napkin drawings & doodles

Got caught without my sketchbook so I was trying to do some gesture drawing (from life) on a napkin.

Some imagination doodles from last week:

Week 3 Homework!

Homework assignments from week 3 at Calarts. The assignments are weird and I never know how they are going to help my drawing, but I am surprisingly learning a ton from doing them -

1. Assignment for Design for Storytellers: Depict "the taste of Heinz ketchup" using paper cutout shapes/lines

2. Assignment for Color and Design. Redraw scribble characters from 2 weeks ago and give them "story." Then without looking, draw two scribble characters at a time interacting with a red object.

First, my "story" drawings:

Second, my blind drawings (I like these better actually):

Gesture drawing

We did super quick gestures in life drawing last Friday (some as few as 10 seconds!) Here are some 1 minutes:

And 2 minutes:

Study

Fabien Mense study. This is an exercise I've been doing: first I copy a model sheet drawing (left), then using a photo of a figure, I try to put that character in that figure's pose while staying on model (right).
